Educating our members and the public is a central purpose of the DFW Herpetological Society. From the beginning, we have provided talks, displays of live animals, and photo presentations to a wide variety of groups.

Since 1975 there has been a display of reptiles and amphibians at the Fort Worth
Nature Center over Memorial Day weekend. This year was no different and the collection
included over 40 species of snakes, turtles, frogs and toads. Visitors were able
to see almost all of the snakes native to Tarrant County. They could also make comparisons
between water snakes and cottonmouths, see the color variation in Texas rat snakes,
compare 3-
Each day volunteers staffed the tables to answer questions and explain the life histories of the animals on display. Although we didn’t break the record we set two years ago, attendance was still strong. On Saturday there were 154 visitors, 115 on Sunday and 219 on Monday for a total of 488 people. Almost half of those were youth (193) showing a strong interest in learning about reptiles and amphibians.
