The Cross Timbers Herpetologist

The Cross Timbers Herpetologist is now a quarterly e-journal, with expanded length and coverage.  From the initial issue in December, 1999, through 2011, the CTH was a monthly newsletter containing original articles on a variety of topics.  Almost every issue contained a “herp profile” with photos and natural history of species such as the Fly River turtle, Texas indigo snake, Mexican beaded lizard, Pickerel frog, Gharial, and many others.  Articles on herpetoculture have addressed issues such as mite treatment, substrates to use in caging, and other topics.  Several of our members have written about trips to the Big Bend, Big Thicket, tropical Mexico, and Central America.

Members can submit sightings of amphibians and reptiles during their field outings, and we report them by region or county under “Herp Sightings.” Members are also entitled to a small, herp-related ad.

The March, 2011 issue contained articles on Leach’s giant gecko as well as the Florida sand skink. It reported a year’s findings from our survey of herps at the Trinity River Audubon Center.  A brief profile of the Fort Worth Zoo’s Museum of Living Art was provided.
